What are the sub categories with AIP?

The AIP has different sub-programs based on three different application types,  each catering to different categories of applicants. Understanding these categories will help you determine the right route for your journey; let’s take a quick look at the three categories within the AIP;

1. Atlantic High-Skilled Program (AHSP)

Basically, this path helps graduates who studied and lived in Atlantic Canada smoothly transition to permanent residency. The general requirements within this category are;

• Along with it, you should have lived there for at least 16 months in the past 2 years before attaining your qualification.
• You’ll need to take a language test, irrespective of the language you took while pursuing your studies.

2. The Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program (AISP).

This category is for those people who have some prior work experience and educational background. To apply under this category, you must fulfil the below criteria;

• You need to have at least 1 year of experience working in a job that requires skills or training, like a manager, professional, or trained tradesperson.
• You must have a degree or diploma from another country that is equal to education in Canada. This can be proven by getting an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.
• The most common is you also need to take a language test to show you can speak English or French well enough for your future work and life in these provinces.
• Finally, you need to prove you have enough money to support yourself and any family members who come with you, regardless of whether they live with you or not.

3. Atlantic International Graduate Program

The last category under AIP, which allows for an applicant who is an international student and recently graduated from a post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada.

• Through it, one should seek an offer from an employer through a special form called an “Offer of Employment to a Foreign National” to hire you.
• Do not forget to make sure the company/employer is approved to participate in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot program (AIP).
• Remember, only full-time jobs qualify, which means you must be working for at least 30 hours per week. This translates into the ineligibility of part-time, temporary or seasonal jobs.
• The job being offered by your employer must be in an occupation listed as eligible for the list of program occupations under the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
• The job offer must be for at least 1 year of full-time work.
• Last but not least, you need to be able to do all the duties of the job as described. This means you have the right education, skills and experience for that specific position or any other specific job requirements unique to each case.
